Experience Description

I only remember that I was lying on the bed while he was strangling me. I tried to push him away. At last, I could not fight anymore because he was pushing so hard. I remember that I was angry. But when I became lax, I was completely calm. For a long time I was unable to move.

It was as if I was not present in my own body. After that I floated above the two of us and looked down. It was a quiet and serene feeling, but I remember that I was then pulled back again. It was difficult and unpleasant to return; the other was a better feeling.

At the time of your experience, was there an associated life-threatening event? Yes Criminal attack Life threatening event, but not clinical death. I was strangulated almost to death by a man I had met.

How do you consider the content of your experience? Both pleasant AND distressing

Did you feel separated from your body? Yes I saw myself lying on the bed and the man next to me who tried to revive me. I clearly left my body and existed outside it

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness? More consciousness and alertness than normal. It felt as if my consciousness had been made keener. It was as if I could see everything clearly. Nothing touched me any longer. I experienced a deep sense of peace.

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness? When I experienced that I was out of my body, it felt like that.

Were your thoughts speeded up? Faster than usual

Did time seem to speed up or slow down? Everything seemed to be happening at once; or time stopped or lost all meaning. Time slowed down and everything stopped. I do not think I experienced a sense of time.

Were your senses More vivid than usual? More vivid than usual

Please compare your vision during the experience to your everyday vision that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience. It is the images I shall never forget, so my sight must have been more attentive.

Please compare your hearing during the experience to your everyday hearing that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience. My hearing was enhanced. It seemed to me that I could still hear, even if I was outside my body.

Did you seem to enter some other, unearthly world? A clearly mystical or unearthly realm I was still in the earthly realm, but it did not feel like the reality I am accustomed to.

What emotions did you feel during the experience? At first I felt fear. After that, I felt peace and calm, as if I was a cloud.

During your experience, did you gain information about an afterlife? I was uncertain if an afterlife exists. After I flew out of my body, I did not feel dead. It felt as if I could get further on, to another place.
