We had a clothes dryer with a short in it. My mother knew about it and told me to stand on a 2 x 4 to put clothes in or remove clothes from the dryer. One day my sister-in-law was visiting. She wanted to water pants and asked me to plug in the pump to the well. To do that, I had to sit on the washing machine and reach behind the clothes dryer. I made contact with the dryer with my left forearm. I remember my whole body going rigid and screaming, but nothing came out. Then there was blackness. I was floating in the blackness heading somewhere. I was happy to be there. It was peaceful, calm, and quiet. I felt as if I knew all the secrets to the universe. Then there was a pounding on my chest, a man yelling, and my sister in law crying. I was really angry to be back in my own body. I knew my mother was going to kill me because the police were there and now she'd have to pay to get the dryer fixed. The police officer who gave me CPR was actually the man for whom I was going to babysit that night. My sister-in-law found me on the washer, glued to the dryer, eyes open, not breathing. She dragged me off the machine with a broomstick and the police officer arrived to pick me up to go babysit for him. He saved my life, but I wasn't feeling very grateful at the time!
