Experience Description

A 500 lb. beam crashed down on me. I was hit on the head and back, causing me to fall under the beam. I remember on first impact thinking, 'This is it.'

As I was falling down from being hit with the beam, it all was happening in slow motion and seemed like it took me forever to hit the ground.

All at once, I was somewhere else and felt great. I started seeing all the events in my life as they went past my field of vision. I had forgotten most of these events.

I suddenly seemed to know all the questions in my life and had all the answers. I just knew all the mysteries of life. I remember thinking about why I didn't know this before.

Then, I could see all of my deceased family members standing in a semi-circle waving to me and welcoming me. But, they were beyond a point where I could go to them.

I then realized that it was not time for me to stay here.

I was back in my body and on my stomach with huge weight lying on my neck.

My experience was wonderful in that, from that point, I have never again feared death. I felt like that was really home when I was there.

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness? More consciousness and alertness than normal. I felt great and knew all the mysteries of life

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness? When I was in a different place.

Were your thoughts speeded up? Faster than usual

Did time seem to speed up or slow down? Everything seemed to be happening at once; or time stopped or lost all meaning. All things just slowed way down

Were your senses More vivid than usual? Incredibly more vivid

Did you pass into or through a tunnel? Uncertain. I was just somewhere else

Did you see any beings in your experience? I actually saw them

Did you encounter or become aware of any deceased (or alive) beings? Yes family and friends

Did you see, or feel surrounded by, a brilliant light? No

Did you see an unearthly light? Yes There was light around my deceased family and friends

Did you seem to enter some other, unearthly world? A clearly mystical or unearthly realm. It did not feel like earth at all and was very peaceful

What emotions did you feel during the experience? beautiful

Did you have a feeling of peace or pleasantness? Incredible peace or pleasantness

Did you have a feeling of joy? Incredible joy

Did you feel a sense of harmony or unity with the universe? I felt united or one with the world

Did you suddenly seem to understand everything? Everything about myself or others. I knew I had the answer to everything.

Did scenes from your past come back to you? My past flashed before me, out of my control. My past was seen as an entire stream of my life, from childhood to adulthood.

Did scenes from the future come to you? No

Did you come to a border or point of no return? I came to a barrier that I was not permitted to cross; or was sent back against my will had to go back

Did your experience include features consistent with your earthly beliefs? Content that was entirely consistent with the beliefs you had at the time of your experience. I always believed in life after death. Now, I have been there.

Did you have a change in your values and beliefs because of your experience? No

Did you seem to encounter a mystical being or presence, or hear an unidentifiable voice? I heard a voice I could not identify. I just seemed to know that I had to go back

Did you see deceased or religious spirits? I actually saw them

Did you encounter or become aware of any beings who previously lived on earth who are described by name in religions (for example: Jesus, Muhammad, Buddha, etc.)? No

During your experience, did you gain information about universal connection or oneness? Yes, I knew this was all connected

During your experience, did you gain information about the existence of God? Yes. I knew that God was letting me experience this

During your experience, did you gain information about the meaning of life? No

During your experience, did you gain information about an afterlife? An afterlife definitely exists. I knew that when I die, this is the place I am going to return to. This place really felt like home.

Did you gain information about how to live our lives? Yes This experience gave me the ability to never fear death

During your experience, did you gain information about life's difficulties, challenges and hardships? Uncertain. I know that death is nothing to fear

During your experience, did you gain information about love? Yes I felt total love.

What life changes occurred in your life after your experience? Large changes in my life. This knowledge gave me a real freedom in my life

Have your relationships changed specifically because of your experience? No

After the NDE:

Was the experience difficult to express in words? Uncertain. I don't think I can express enough my total joy while I was there.

How accurately do you remember the experience in comparison to other life events that occurred around the time of the experience? I remember the experience more accurately than other life events that occurred around the time of the experience.

Do you have any psychic, non-ordinary or other special gifts after your experience that you did not have before the experience? No

Are there one or several parts of your experience that are especially meaningful or significant to you? I remembered that I had all the answers to life questions at the time and was amazed how clear it was. Unfortunately, I couldn't recall this information upon my return to my body.

Have you ever shared this experience with others? Yes just with family

Did you have any knowledge of near death experience (NDE) prior to your experience? No

What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened? Experience was definitely real. The experience was more real than anything I've ever experienced before.

What do you believe about the reality of your experience now? Experience was definitely real. The experience is just as clear 50 years later as when it happened.
