Experience Description:

I went out of my body. Saw the doctors around working on me during surgery. I went through a tunnel really fast. I was in a wonderful light. I saw a bridge. Across the bridge were people I knew who had died, like my father who had died less than a year before this. He was so happy to see me and said, 'Hi Mija.' There was light around them. Other family members were all smiling at me. He was so proud for them to see me. I was happy to be there. Then after a while, a voice said I had to go back. It wasn't my time. I had things to do. My dad's face dropped. He looked sad. I said I didn't want to go back. I was crying. Then like an instant. I went back through the tunnel and I was back in my body.

At the time of your experience, was there an associated life-threatening event? Yes Illness Surgery-related Other during surgery of blood clot in my head I was in surgery with a blood clot in my head.

How do you consider the content of your experience? Wonderful

Did you feel separated from your body? Yes I clearly left my body and existed outside it

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness? More consciousness and alertness than normal I felt love and warmth around me.

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness? When I was with those I recognized.

Were your thoughts speeded up? Incredibly fast

Did time seem to speed up or slow down? Everything seemed to be happening all at once Time went so fast.

Were your senses more vivid than usual? Incredibly more so

Did you pass into or through a tunnel? Yes The colors were so pretty, and I went through it so fast.

Did you see any beings in your experience? Sensed their presence

Did you encounter or become aware of any deceased (or alive) beings? Yes On the bridge were my family some I didn't recognize.

Did you see, or feel surrounded by, a brilliant light? A light clearly of mystical or other-worldly origin

Did you see an unearthly light? Yes It felt warm.

Did you seem to enter some other, unearthly world? Clearly mystical or unearthly realm

What emotions did you feel during the experience? Loved and happy to be there.

Did you have a feeling of peace or pleasantness? Incredible peace or pleasantness

Have your relationships changed specifically because of your experience? Yes I can feel if a person is good or bad.

Was the experience difficult to express in words? Yes How good it felt to be in the light.

Do you have any psychic, non-ordinary or other special gifts after your experience that you did not have before the experience? Yes I feel like I can sense dead spirits around me sometimes.

Are there one or several parts of your experience that are especially meaningful or significant to you? I saw my dad was okay. And I always wonder what it is I was supposed to do.

Have you ever shared this experience with others? Yes I never tell anyone this as an adult. Recently my cousin told me that I had told my mom when I woke up after the surgery - that I told her I saw her mother. And I guess she told her family. But it was never discussed with me.

Did you have any knowledge of near death experience (NDE) prior to your experience? No

What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened? Experience was definitely real I felt a sense of peace.
