That morning I arrived at the hospital and had a C section to deliver my son. He was born completely healthy and everything was fine. I began hemorrhaging about an hour afterwards. I was in and out of consciousness until the doctors put me out with anesthesia to do an emergency hysterectomy. I remember waking up in a large field that was filled with grass and beautiful pink flowers. The sky was so blue. There were mountains in the background and a large forest on the other side of the field. What I remember most is how warm I felt. It was a very comfortable warmth like on a Spring or fall day when the weather is perfect and the sun is shining; like that. Sitting next to me was a little girl. We talked for a long time. She was a daughter I lost to stillbirth several years ago. I knew that's who she was and I felt happy to see her and talk to her. She was about 7 or 8 years old which is how old she would be now if she had lived. The whole time I kept hearing other voices and knew it was people talking about me. I felt I knew the voices, like one was my grandmother. Perhaps I was really hearing the doctors talking while I was in surgery but I think that I was hearing something else. I have never been a very religious person and never really even thought about what happens to us when we die. I feel confident now that there is life after death.
