Experience Description I had just given birth to my daughter. The nurses were showing me how to bathe her as I lay in the bed. The doctor was at the foot of the bed, still waiting for the placenta to pass. I felt my insides being pulled and screamed. He tried to pull the placenta out but it had grown into my uterus. This is a condition called placenta accreta. I remember telling them that I was very hot and thirsty. I kept asking for water and they refused to give me any. Then I remember the nurse yelling, 'She's turning blue.' Everything turned black. I saw a tunnel with a light in the distance. I can’t remember feeling like my body was in the tunnel. I can just remember what I saw. I don’t remember any feelings at all. Suddenly the light got super bright and I heard, 'Danielle, you have to wake up.' I briefly opened my eyes to being pushed in the hospital hallway. I saw the nurse’s face and she was telling me to stay awake. I remember entering the elevator and then everything went black again. I went back to the tunnel. It was the same as it was before. But it felt like it was only seconds before the bright light appeared above me, almost blinding my eyes. I could feel it in my eyes. At the exact moment the light appeared, I woke up to feeling my veins burning in my hand from something going through the IV. I was hysterically screaming at them to stop and to get off of me. I had lost massive amounts of blood and was in the operating room. When I woke up, the procedure to remove my placenta was done. The time I saw the tunnel felt like mere seconds though. I didn’t see any other beings or valleys or anything while in the tunnel. The only voice I heard was my nurse, Amy. I had to end up staying in bed receiving blood transfusions throughout the night. My body was extremely swollen. My experience may differ from most but I truly believe it was a real near death experience. Who knows maybe nurse Amy was my guardian angel. She ended up treating me again when I went into labor two months prematurely three years later.
