Experience Description

I had taken an overdose of pills and then laid down to sleep.

The next thing I remember was being stood in a forest. It was the middle of the day and it was really sunny. A voice told me to walk into the trees and my soul would leave my body. I hesitated and the voice said, 'You're not ready. You can't come yet.' I tried to walk to the trees, but nothing happened.

Then, I was back in my physical body and vomiting everything out of my system. I suffered hallucinations. I couldn't speak and couldn't walk. Also, my limbs would not stop shaking and jerking for hours after that. I know that if I hadn't thrown up, I would have died.

At the time of your experience, was there an associated life-threatening event? Yes Suicide attempt. Drug or medication overdose. I was alone, not in hospital during NDE. Life threatening event, but not clinical death

How do you consider the content of your experience? Entirely pleasant

Did you feel separated from your body? Yes. I clearly left my body and existed outside it

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness? More consciousness and alertness than normal. I knew it was real; everything seemed clearer and more peaceful.

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness? When I was unconscious and standing in the forest

Were your thoughts speeded up? No

Did time seem to speed up or slow down? No

Were your senses More vivid than usual? Incredibly more vivid

Please compare your vision during the experience to your everyday vision that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience. My vision was perfect. The trees seemed very green and the light was perfect. Usually I were glasses, but I wasn't aware of vision issues.

Please compare your hearing during the experience to your everyday hearing that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience. I have good hearing, it seemed the same.

Did you seem to be aware of things going on elsewhere, as if by ESP? No

Did you see any beings in your experience? I sensed their presence

Did you encounter or become aware of any deceased (or alive) beings? Yes I heard my friend's voice who is a shaman.

Did you see, or feel surrounded by, a brilliant light? A light clearly of mystical or other-worldly origin

Did you see an unearthly light? Yes The light coming through the trees could be described as an unearthly light. It was coming down towards me diagonally, as if the sun was high in the sky and it was shining through a gap in the trees in front of me

Did you seem to enter some other, unearthly world? Some unfamiliar and strange place. I was in a forest full of trees so tall you couldn't see the top

What emotions did you feel during the experience? Peaceful, happy, hesitant

Did you have a feeling of peace or pleasantness? Incredible peace or pleasantness

Did you have a feeling of joy? Incredible joy

Did you feel a sense of harmony or unity with the universe? I felt united or one with the world

Did you suddenly seem to understand everything? Everything about myself or others Everything felt okay. It wasn't like I had all the answers to everything, but everything felt manageable and good.

Did scenes from your past come back to you? No

Did scenes from the future come to you? No

Did you come to a border or point of no return? I came to a barrier that I was not permitted to cross; or was sent back against my will. I was supposed to walk through a veil and into the trees. When I hesitated, the veil was removed. Although I walked through where it was, nothing happened. I was returned to my life.

What was your religion prior to your experience? Unaffiliated- Nothing in particular- Religious unaffiliated. I believe in Shamanism and the idea of out of body experiences. I would also choose to follow the Buddhist way of life in some aspects.

Have your religious practices changed since your experience? to early to tell. Uncertain

What is your religion now? Unaffiliated- Nothing in particular- Religious unaffiliated

Did your experience include features consistent with your earthly beliefs? Content that was both consistent and not consistent with the beliefs you had at the time of your experience. I believe in reincarnation. However, I wasn't sure about astral projection. I have no doubt about it now.

Did you have a change in your values and beliefs because of your experience? No

Did you seem to encounter a mystical being or presence, or hear an unidentifiable voice? I heard a voice I could not identify. I heard a voice talking to me. At first, it took the form of my friend telling me that I needed to walk into the trees. When I hesitated, the voice changed to a deep, man's voice telling me I wasn't ready.

Did you see deceased or religious spirits? I sensed their presence

Did you encounter or become aware of any beings who previously lived on earth who are described by name in religions (for example: Jesus, Muhammad, Buddha, etc.)? Uncertain I feel like the man who spoke to me is someone of great importance, and my thought immediately went to Hades. He wasn't there but his presence was all around me

During your experience, did you gain information about premortal existence? No

During your experience, did you gain information about universal connection or oneness? Uncertain. I was told that my soul would leave my body but I'm not sure where it would go. I felt certain that my soul would leave and I would end up somewhere new. That's where I was walking to.

During your experience, did you gain information about the existence of God? No

During your experience, did you gain information about an afterlife? An afterlife probably exists. The person said that my soul would leave my body but they didn't say where it would go

What life changes occurred in your life after your experience? Moderate changes in my life. I feel the need to go and see a spiritual advisor. I also find it important now to meet my ancestors.

After the NDE:

Was the experience difficult to express in words? Yes I don't feel like I can capture that pure energy involved and the feeling

How accurately do you remember the experience in comparison to other life events that occurred around the time of the experience? I remember the experience more accurately than other life events that occurred around the time of the experience. I can remember it as through it was real life. When I was back in my body, my memories are blurry because of the prescription drugs I had taken.

Do you have any psychic, non-ordinary or other special gifts after your experience that you did not have before the experience? Uncertain After I woke up, I could see someone standing over me all night who I thought was my mother. When my Dad entered the room, they disappeared and I was asking him where mum went. I now think it must have been one of my ancestors looking over me
