Experience Description

The story was related to me by my mother.

I had had a fever of over 105. My mom and dad were both with me. I grabbed my mother's face and said, 'I love you. Goodbye.' Then my fever broke and I fell into a deep sleep.

The next day, my mother told me that I was coloring a picture. I said, 'I know what God looks like.' She was very surprised because we had not ever talked about God and I was only three years old. She asked me, 'How do you know?'

My mother told me that I communicated to her in words to the effect that 'I saw him last night. I couldn't see his face because the light was so bright around him but he was holding his arms out. I wanted to go to him so badly but Dad kept yelling my name so loudly that I decided to turn around and come back.'

That's all they told me but it sure sounds like I had an experience of an afterlife.

Did you feel separated from your body? Yes I saw a God-like person with their hands out in front of them but I couldn't see the face because all I could see was the brightest golden light I've ever seen. I lost awareness of my body

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness? More consciousness and alertness than normal Unaware. Too young.

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness? I don't know, I was too young to remember that

Were your thoughts speeded up? No

Did time seem to speed up or slow down? No

Were your senses More vivid than usual? More vivid than usual

Please compare your hearing during the experience to your everyday hearing that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience. Voices appeared very loud, when in actuality they were very quiet.

Did you see any beings in your experience? I actually saw them

Did you encounter or become aware of any deceased (or alive) beings? No

Did you see, or feel surrounded by, a brilliant light? A light clearly of mystical or other-worldly origin

Did you see an unearthly light? Yes

Did you seem to enter some other, unearthly world? No

What emotions did you feel during the experience? Very happy

Did you have a feeling of peace or pleasantness? Incredible peace or pleasantness

Did you have a feeling of joy? Incredible joy

Did you feel a sense of harmony or unity with the universe? I felt no longer in conflict with nature

Did you suddenly seem to understand everything? No

Did scenes from your past come back to you? No

Did scenes from the future come to you? No

Did you come to a border or point of no return? I came to a definite conscious decision to return to life. It felt like I could hear my dad yelling my name over and over. When in reality he told me he was quietly saying my name.

Did your experience include features consistent with your earthly beliefs? Content that was entirely not consistent with the beliefs you had at the time of your experience

Did you seem to encounter a mystical being or presence, or hear an unidentifiable voice? I encountered a definite being, or a voice clearly of mystical or unearthly origin. God was surrounded by a light so bright, I could not see his face. But I knew it was God.

Did you see deceased or religious spirits? I actually saw them

Did you encounter or become aware of any beings who previously lived on earth who are described by name in religions (for example: Jesus, Muhammad, Buddha, etc.)? No

During your experience, did you gain information about the existence of God? Yes I know the man standing above me with open arms was God.
