Experience Description: I was in a friend's house with another three friends. I needed to go to the bathroom. I entered my friend's bathroom. The light was on. All of a sudden I heard a clatter on the floor, as if something fell over, but I could see nothing: I was conscious of being upright in total darkness (later I was told that the noise was my body falling to the ground and upsetting a trashcan). It was dark and I wondered what I was doing there. Then for some reason, I took a big, wide step to my left. I was in another place. The sun was shining, it was warm, and it was beautiful. People were all happy, content, and busy. Many children. I remember my dead grandfather with his arm round me - he was showing me a building. There were many children. I didn't question anything, it was all 'meant to be'. It felt like coming home. But then I heard a voice say, 'You will remember nothing of this,' and a wrench. I was back in my body but I didn't know it.I was just conscious of being inside something, totally quiet, totally still. Then I breathed and that was incredible. It felt like the universe expanding in me. Then I opened my eyes and saw my friends above me, worried. Their lips were moving fast and their faces were excited but I could hear nothing. All of a sudden, someone turned on the volume: I heard them speaking mid-sentence. Really odd. I 'knew' I had 'died'. I was really afraid 'they' would come back for me. This was in contrast with my personal beliefs but I can't ignore that it happened to me.Background Information: Gender: Female Date NDE Occurred: 1994 NDE Elements: At the time of your experience, was there an associated life-threatening event? Yes 'It's that easy' and 'why don't we know it's this simple'? Have your relationships changed specifically because of your experience? No After the NDE: Was the experience difficult to express in words? Yes It seemed so taken for granted in an odd way - as if it had always been and always would be. In this way it is hard to relate to everyday life situations. Do you have any psychic, non-ordinary or other special gifts after your experience that you did not have before the experience? Yes I left my body several times when I was young and had some unusual experiences of a mystical nature. Are there one or several parts of your experience that are especially meaningful or significant to you? How I felt was unrepeatable. I am perplexed that this voice told me I'd forget everything - and I forgot what I said to those people and what they said to me, and what they were doing. It was so real, when I woke I was shivering and petrified that I'd go back. I was too young. Have you ever shared this experience with others? Yes I talk quite freely about facts, so I don't usually hide my NDE when the conversation is right and the people are liberal enough to listen without prejudice. Some believe. Some don't. Did you have any knowledge of near death experience (NDE) prior to your experience? Yes Though I'd heard of NDEs I had no idea I was going through one when it happened. What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened? Experience was definitely real Gratitude I was still alive. However, the NDE was so realistic, I took it for granted and wasn't surprised at it. What do you believe about the reality of your experience now? Experience was probably real Though I am currently investigating recent discoveries about the brain and its functions, too many people describe similar things, and I can't ignore that I lived through it! At any time in your life, has anything ever reproduced any part of the experience? No
