Experience Description I found myself at ceiling level, in a corner of the room. I was watching my husband help the doctor and two nurses. They were turning me onto one side to insert a spinal block. Then they put me onto a trolley to rush to theatre. During this time, I was a dispassionate onlooker. I felt no pain. I felt a serenity I have only encountered once before. That being when I almost drowned as a small child. When all hope is gone, the world becomes peaceful, quiet, and vision becomes very clear. I found myself back in my body when we came to the theatre door.
