Experience Description

I was not frightened or scared while I was out of my body. I just watched what was happening below me. I then woke up back in my body. My mother was crying beside me. I told her what had happened. She was shocked that I knew what had happened in detail during surgery.

At the time of your experience, was there an associated life-threatening event? Yes Surgery-related. Life threatening event, but not clinical death. Removal of tonsils and returned from operating room back to my ward. I rose up out of my body watching doctors and nurses working on me. I even saw a policeman enter from behind the curtain and speak to the doctor. He had his motorbike helmet under his arm. He was rung by the hospital to contact my mother because they thought that I could die. I was hemorrhagic.

How do you consider the content of your experience? Neither pleasant NOR distressing

Did you feel separated from your body? Yes Everything I saw was real. When I woke back in my body my mother verified that every event I saw did happen. I clearly left my body and existed outside it

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness? Normal consciousness and alertness.

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness? While I was above my body watching.

Please compare your vision during the experience to your everyday vision that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience. Very vivid. I have never forgotten this experience because it is so clear to me.

What emotions did you feel during the experience? I was calm and not worried at all. I just watched with interest.

But at the age of five, I really just accepted what had happened and didn't question or think about it until I realised as I got older that it was a special event.
