Experience Description

As I attempted to rescue my crew, my mindframe was that nothing else mattered but their welfare. I was in the attic. Suddenly, the roof gave way and I fell into the attic.

I can vividly remember my feelings. As I was falling, time seemed to continue in slow motion. I ended up being trapped in the attic which was estimated to be about 2000F degrees. While searching for a way out and seeing nothing but fire all around me, I was not panicked.

I was feeling serene. Then I heard a voice, deep down from somewhere and it said, 'Jeff I am not done with you yet.'

As soon as it stoppe,d my senses roared back and I felt the heat. Luckily, I made it down safely. Everyone wondered how I had escaped and said a normal human being would have died.

After having time to reflect on this experience, I think 'not being done with me yet' means traveling around and telling my testimony. Perhaps that was some of it.

However, 9 months into retirement, I caused a horrible accident that handicapped an innocent man for life. I was operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and prescription medicine. My first week in rehabilitation, an act of kindness dropped me to my knees as I felt the presence of God. I think that's what it was because I cannot explain it. My attitude about God and miracles was changed that very day, February 7, 2012. I have been clean and sober since. Still too, due to my actions I had to serve 5 years in prison. Many miracles followed me into prison and still occur to this day. Now as I take my sobriety out for a walk as a servant, I believe that was what that voice meant by saying, 'Jeff I'm not done with you yet.'
