Experience Description

At the time of my NDE, I was around four months pregnant with my first child. My husband and I were on a short break with another couple. The men had put our boat into the lake and were bringing the trailer back out of the water. One of our friends cut his hand whilst winding up the boat winch. The injury appeared quite severe and there was a lot of blood. We all headed back toward our car so that we could take our friend to have his hand attended to at the local hospital. I began to feel unwell, so I reached out to my husband who was close by. The next earthly memory I have is of sitting in our car with my husband leaning over me.

According to my husband, I collapsed. He picked me up and placed me in the passenger seat of our car. He later told me that I had stopped breathing, my pallor was grey and my eyes were open and rolled back. As far as he could tell, I was dead. He says he actually slapped me after attempting every other way he could think of to bring me back. It was at that moment I returned.

What I experienced was vastly different. I found myself walking through a tunnel of light. The tunnel opened out to a garden where I could hear children laughing and playing. I never actually got to the garden. All I could see was a bright white expanse, but I knew the children were there and that is where I wanted to go. I don't recall if I actually saw the man or just knew of his presence. A man, who I have always believed to be Jesus Christ, came to me in the tunnel and told me that I couldn't go where the children were. He told me that I had to go back where I had come from. I remember feeling quite disappointed that I wasn't allowed to be with the children. It sounded like such a wonderful place.

At the time of your experience, was there an associated life-threatening event? No. No specific reason - shock perhaps. I was pregnant and passed out.

How do you consider the content of your experience? Entirely pleasant

Did you feel separated from your body? No I lost awareness of my body

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness? Normal consciousness and alertness. I don't recall any change, but this experience was certainly as real as anything else I've experienced here on earth.

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness? The whole time

Did you pass into or through a tunnel? Yes The whole experience was in a tunnel of pure white light with an opening which was also pure white light.

Did you see any beings in your experience? I sensed their presence

Did you encounter or become aware of any deceased (or alive) beings? Ye.s No relation to me. These were children I had no recollection of previously knowing.

Did you see, or feel surrounded by, a brilliant light? An unusually bright light

Did you see an unearthly light? Yes Whiter white than anything ever seen on earth.

Did you seem to enter some other, unearthly world? No

What emotions did you feel during the experience? Joy, anticipation followed by sadness when I was told I couldn't stay there.

Did you have a feeling of peace or pleasantness? Incredible peace or pleasantness

Did you have a feeling of joy? Incredible joy

Did you come to a border or point of no return? I came to a barrier that I was not permitted to cross; or was sent back against my will The man in the tunnel, Jesus, sent me back.

God, Spiritual and Religion:

What was your religion prior to your experience? Christian- Other Christian I was raised a Christian but at the time of my experience I was not actively engaged with my faith.

What is your religion now? Christian- Other Christian I appear to be on a new journey of discovery with Father God

Did your experience include features consistent with your earthly beliefs? Content that was entirely consistent with the beliefs you had at the time of your experience. I believe in Jesus, I interacted with Jesus.

Did you have a change in your values and beliefs because of your experience? Uncertain. My faith has become stronger as I have gotten older, but my experience certainly cemented the reality of the afterlife for me.

Did you seem to encounter a mystical being or presence, or hear an unidentifiable voice? I encountered a definite being, or a voice clearly of mystical or unearthly origin. I saw/felt the presence of a man who I took to be Jesus Christ. He told me I couldn't stay and that I had to go back.

Did you see deceased or religious spirits? I sensed their presence

Did you encounter or become aware of any beings who previously lived on earth who are described by name in religions (for example: Jesus, Muhammad, Buddha, etc.)? Yes As above - Jesus Christ

During your experience, did you gain information about premortal existence? No

During your experience, did you gain information about universal connection or oneness? No

During your experience, did you gain information about the existence of God? Yes I spoke with a being of authority, who told me i had to return to this life. I have always known/assumed that this being is Jesus Christ.

During your experience, did you gain special knowledge or information about your purpose? No

During your experience, did you gain information about an afterlife? I was uncertain if an afterlife exists Yes My experience left me in no doubt that there is life after physical death.

What life changes occurred in your life after your experience? Unknown My experience was so long ago, and i was quite young. I see a lot of the documented characteristics of NDErs in myself and those characteristics seem be getting stronger as I get older.

Have your relationships changed specifically because of your experience? No No

Was the experience difficult to express in words? No

How accurately do you remember the experience in comparison to other life events that occurred around the time of the experience? I remember the experience more accurately than other life events that occurred around the time of the experience. This memory seems to be timeless in its clarity.

Do you have any psychic, non-ordinary or other special gifts after your experience that you did not have before the experience? Yes I know things, I have visions and dreams.

Are there one or several parts of your experience that are especially meaningful or significant to you? All of it.

Have you ever shared this experience with others? Yes I have told several people over the years. Most just say 'oh wow', and walk on.

Did you have any knowledge of near death experience (NDE) prior to your experience? No

What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened? Experience was definitely real I have never doubted that my experience was real.
