Experience Description

I had a sausage-shaped aneurysm that was sitting on my right optic nerve, causing me to have palsy and lack of motor skill. One day, the aneurysm burst and I was rushed to have an emergency craniotomy.

How do you consider the content of your experience? Both pleasant AND distressing

The experience included: Out of body experience

Did you feel separated from your body? No I clearly left my body and existed outside it

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness? More consciousness and alertness than normal I was visited by a deceased relative, whom I know has helped me through several close calls that I should not have been in, including drinking at work and a lot more. I wasn't scared at that point. I felt completely comforted and knew it still wasn't my time, as this was my second near death experience.

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness? During the time in the void.

Were your thoughts speeded up? No

Did time seem to speed up or slow down? Everything seemed to be happening at once; or time stopped or lost all meaning But it wasn't conceptual.

Were your senses more vivid than usual? Incredibly more vivid

Please compare your vision during the experience to your everyday vision that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience. There was nothing to see but a soothing, enveloping light. Not bright, but soothing.

Did you gain information about how to live our lives? Yes I just felt a sense of appreciating life and that no matter how many times life has tried to kill me I am here on a journey

What life changes occurred in your life after your experience? Large changes in my life I will just say, in case this goes nowhere, so no sense in rambling on, ask some close people to me, and they will all say I am not the same person. I have fragmented memories and forgotten ones, too.

Are there one or several parts of your experience that are especially meaningful or significant to you? My grandmother, always letting me know she is still here after thirty years of being gone.

Have you ever shared this experience with others? Yes People were skeptical at first. They always are until they hear it all.
