Experience Description

I had had a severe diverticular blood loss about an hour earlier and was very unsteady on my feet. I felt terrible during the journey as my blood pressure felt very low. Family members were helping me out of the car and into the house. I knew I needed to get to the bathroom quickly. I remember holding the door frame for support and my finger being pinched by an attempt to close the door before I was fully inside. Then I passed out with another significant discharge of blood.

The next thing I recall is being above and outside my body. I was in total darkness. Throughout this experience, I had a feeling of tremendous peace and harmony. It was the most warm, loving, and pleasant feeling imaginable. Then I saw a small rectangular porthole above me. It was dimly lit, but I sensed two or three beings looking over me.

One said, 'What’s he doing here?'

Another said, 'We have no idea.' A third being said, 'He is not due here until _____.' I heard something about the number 30, and do not know if this was a reference to 2030 or 30 years hence.

I fell quickly back down into my body. I had the sense of a massive injection of energy or soft power. Then I came back to consiousness.

When I awoke, I was very groggy. I was still on the floor and covered in blood. I was told subsequently that I was unconscious for between 1 and 2 minutes. Within 10 minutes, I was cleaned up and lying on a couch with a cup of tea. I told my family I was fine. Remarkably, my blood pressure registered as normal.

I told no one of my nde at the time. But, I was quite relaxed and knew that I would be physically fine if I rested.

How do you consider the content of your experience? Entirely pleasant

Did you feel separated from your body? No. I clearly left my body and existed outside it

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness? More consciousness and alertness than normal. I felt aware that something unusual was happening and that I was allowed to witness it in a sort of slow motion. It’s as if there was a reason for this happening and I knew everything was going to be fine.

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness? Whilst unconscious.

Were your thoughts speeded up? Faster than usual

Did time seem to speed up or slow down? Everything seemed to be happening at once; or time stopped or lost all meaning

Were your senses More vivid than usual? No

Please compare your vision during the experience to your everyday vision that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience. It was very dark. Initially, I felt that there was something like a TV screen in black and white, way above that I could not quite focus on. I felt that I was in the picture and also observing it.

Please compare your hearing during the experience to your everyday hearing that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience. I heard the voices of the beings ‘on the screen’ but did not hear any of the commotion around my physical body where there was some panic.

Did you encounter or become aware of any deceased (or alive) beings? Yes Could no see them clearly or did not recognise any voices.

Did you see, or feel surrounded by, a brilliant light? No

Did you seem to enter some other, unearthly world? Some unfamiliar and strange place

What emotions did you feel during the experience? Tremendous Peace and calm.

Did you have a feeling of peace or pleasantness? Incredible peace or pleasantness

Did you have a feeling of joy? Happiness

Did you feel a sense of harmony or unity with the universe? I felt united or one with the world

Did you have a change in your values and beliefs because of your experience? Uncertain. I have questioned my life purpose and will resume meditating.

Concerning our Earthly lives other than Religion:

During your experience, did you gain special knowledge or information about your purpose? No

During your experience, did you gain information about the meaning of life? No

During your experience, did you gain information about an afterlife? Yes I had arrived in another realm, but was an unexpected visitor. I had a sense of peace and Happiness that accompanied this. It felt like another realm that was higher than our own.

Did you gain information about how to live our lives? No

During your experience, did you gain information about life's difficulties, challenges and hardships? No

During your experience, did you gain information about love? No

What life changes occurred in your life after your experience? Moderate changes in my life. Too soon to say, but my focus is sharper and my cognitive skills seem better.

Have your relationships changed specifically because of your experience? I am more tolerant of most people. Particularly noisy chatter that often distracts that previously would have irked me more in the past.

After the NDE:

Was the experience difficult to express in words? No

How accurately do you remember the experience in comparison to other life events that occurred around the time of the experience? I remember the experience as accurately as other life events that occurred around the time of the experience. I have replayed the memory many times as to the reference of time 2030 or thirty years. I get the sense that I was not supposed to hear or understand this.

Do you have any psychic, non-ordinary or other special gifts after your experience that you did not have before the experience? Uncertain Perception around some people that I can ascertain ulterior motives or hidden issues.

Are there one or several parts of your experience that are especially meaningful or significant to you? No.

Have you ever shared this experience with others? No

Did you have any knowledge of near death experience (NDE) prior to your experience? Yes General awareness of the topic.

What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened? Experience was definitely real. Everything felt like it was in its proper place.

What do you believe about the reality of your experience now? Experience was definitely real. My sense of this is that I have unfinished business to attend to and possibly people to help somehow.

At any time in your life, has anything ever reproduced any part of the experience? Uncertain. During a blood transfusion, I felt very vulnerable in the middle of the night. My nurse came along and reassured me that everything was fine. As I drifted off to sleep, the sense of calm and peace that I experienced recently came to me and stayed until I woke up the next morning.
