Experience Description

After the birth of my child, I was very depressed and had been on medication for post-partum depression. I overdosed on this medication during the ride to the hospital. I was pronounced dead in the ambulance. I was above my body and saw the emergency medical technician (EMT) working on my body below me. I could hear everything they said and saw everything around me. But the EMTs could not hear me while I was talking to them. Then I noticed my body below. I realized that my mouth was not moving and that the body was in a reclined position in the ambulance. I remember that I moved to another dimension where there was an extremely bright, lighted area. I was given the choice to stay or go back to my body so I could take care of my newborn child.

At the time of your experience, was there an associated life-threatening event? Yes Suicide attempt. Life threatening event, but not clinical death. Depression after birth of my child

How do you consider the content of your experience? Entirely pleasant

Did you feel separated from your body? Yes. I was told later that I died and was revived. I clearly left my body and existed outside it

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness? More consciousness and alertness than normal. I felt an extreme awareness and purpose to life and no fear of death. I felt complete peacefulness.

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness? After I died.

Were your thoughts speeded up? Faster than usual

Did time seem to speed up or slow down? Everything seemed to be happening at once; or time stopped or lost all meaning

Were your senses More vivid than usual? Incredibly more vivid

Please compare your hearing during the experience to your everyday hearing that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience. My hearing was amplified. I could hear everyone talking at the same time and was I was very alert to their words and actions.

Did you seem to be aware of things going on elsewhere, as if by ESP? Yes, and the facts have been checked out

Did you pass into or through a tunnel? Uncertain Not sure because it happened so quickly and it has been over 50 years since the memory.

Did you see any beings in your experience? I sensed their presence

Did you encounter or become aware of any deceased (or alive) beings? No

Did you see, or feel surrounded by, a brilliant light? A light clearly of mystical or other-worldly origin

Did you see an unearthly light? Yes The light was very intense, mystical, and calming. It has showed up many times throughout my life, particularly during troubled times.

Did you seem to enter some other, unearthly world? A clearly mystical or unearthly realm. I felt like it was a different dimension where there was no time or spatial recognition

What emotions did you feel during the experience? Peacefulness some confusion

Did you have a feeling of peace or pleasantness? Incredible peace or pleasantness

Did you have a feeling of joy? Incredible joy

Did you feel a sense of harmony or unity with the universe? I felt no longer in conflict with nature

Did you suddenly seem to understand everything? Everything about myself or others

Did scenes from your past come back to you? I remembered many past events

Did scenes from the future come to you? Scenes from my personal future. I know that I was shown scenes from my future, but they were taken from me when I returned to my body

Did you come to a border or point of no return? I came to a definite conscious decision to return to life. I chose to come back for my newborn child.

What was your religion prior to your experience? Christian- Catholic I was not practicing my religion at the time of the first death experience

Have your religious practices changed since your experience? Yes

What is your religion now? Unknown

Did your experience include features consistent with your earthly beliefs? Content that was both consistent and not consistent with the beliefs you had at the time of your experience. I felt loved and part of a bigger picture than myself. I also felt a universal connection.

Did you have a change in your values and beliefs because of your experience? Yes

Did you seem to encounter a mystical being or presence, or hear an unidentifiable voice? I encountered a definite being, or a voice clearly of mystical or unearthly origin. The voice asked me whether I wanted to stay or go back and take care of my newborn child who needed me. I have an autistic child.

Did you see deceased or religious spirits? I sensed their presence

During your experience, did you gain information about premortal existence? Yes I am here for a specific purpose and people come in to my life for a purpose.

During your experience, did you gain information about universal connection or oneness? Yes I felt a oneness of the universe, like an energy in the universe.

During your experience, did you gain information about the existence of God? Yes I believe that God or a supreme being exists and is watching over us constantly. I believe that messages or signs are given to us throughout our lives. I have intensive awareness to people and events in life. It is like a sixth sense of awareness to past and future events and how we are connected. There are no accidental meetings and everything happens for a greater purpose.

Concerning our Earthly lives other than Religion:

During your experience, did you gain special knowledge or information about your purpose? Yes Special knowledge of those experiencing illness or near death. I knew my purpose was to take care of my autistic child.

During your experience, did you gain information about the meaning of life? Yes We are all her for a specific purpose

During your experience, did you gain information about an afterlife? An afterlife definitely exists. The awareness that we have guardians who watch over me and guide me throughout my life. I have awareness that they are there to protect me so that I can complete m purpose in life.

Did you gain information about how to live our lives? Yes I felt I was given powers of perception and awareness of heavenly beings or messengers that appear throughout my life in human form.

During your experience, did you gain information about life's difficulties, challenges and hardships? Yes. I knew my life would be difficult and maybe I would not find true Happiness in this life, but I was supposed to help others through their journey. It was like I was to be an earth angel there to help others discover their purpose or be with them before their death.

During your experience, did you gain information about love? Yes Love is the guiding force.

What life changes occurred in your life after your experience? Large changes in my life. I have an extreme perception to greater awareness and have a need to find NDErs.

Have your relationships changed specifically because of your experience? Yes

After the NDE:

Was the experience difficult to express in words? Uncertain. I remember and can vividly express most of it, but there was a part I was not to remember because I came back to my body.

How accurately do you remember the experience in comparison to other life events that occurred around the time of the experience? I remember the experience more accurately than other life events that occurred around the time of the experience. I vividly remember what the supreme being wanted me to remember and to take back to others. I felt an extreme change to my perception and the power to predict things that will happen to others in trouble.

Do you have any psychic, non-ordinary or other special gifts after your experience that you did not have before the experience? Yes I have these special gifts of prophesy, healing, feeling others emotions, or extreme empathy for others. Out of body experiences of traveling in another dimension to others at their death bed.

Are there one or several parts of your experience that are especially meaningful or significant to you? Greater meaning to life and feeling that I am connected strongly to others who have had a NDE.

Have you ever shared this experience with others? Yes Some believed me others were none believers and some had the same experience.
