Experience Description During the summer of 1999, I went to Virginia to help my mom's friend move her stuff back to Oklahoma. It seemed like a good idea at the time since I was seventeen and on summer break from high school. Unfortunately, I injured my back and was given pain medication. This led to an accidental overdose that changed my life. I remember the medics showing up and giving me a cup of black liquid to drink. Later, I found that liquid was charcoal. The charcoal was supposed to neutralize the drugs but I still ended up dead. I'm not sure how long I was dead. Afterwards I was told that I was brought back twice. The third time they called my time of death, not expecting me to come back. Thankfully, I did make it back but it was later than expected. Suddenly, I was all alone in 'space' as we would call it. I had no physical body. I was able to go anywhere in the universe that I could think of in an instant. I saw some beautiful planets and stars being born, but nothing in our solar system. I find this odd because I was going to places that I was thinking of instantly, even though I had never known about them. All the while, it seemed like I knew what was going on. I had a choice to go anywhere that I wanted to. This entire experience was like flying through space and if I wanted to be somewhere, then I was there. Finally, I made it back to Earth. Looking down on the planet from above, it was the trees that really got me emotional. None of the other places that I visited had plants or even the color green. I remember thinking that I want go back because of the trees. As soon as I had that thought I was back in my body on Earth. I found myself sitting in a courtyard of a building with my mom's friend and an Asian lady was smoking a cigarette in one of those long plastic filters. I look down and I notice that I'm wearing completely different clothes than before. My first question was, 'Which way is north?' They both looked at me in such a strange way, as if I just showed up. I didn't know it at the moment but I was in a mental hospital because they had to make sure that I was all right. This happened on a weekend so I had to wait until Monday to see a doctor to released me. This experience was nothing like anything I experienced before. I've had out-of-this-world experiences with LSD and mushrooms too. Those experiences still doesn't compare to my NDE. How I went from looking at Earth to being in my body, actively having a conversation, will always make me wonder how this all works.
