Experience Description

During a high school football game, I was injured. It had turned out that I ruptured my spleen in the game. The impact caused my rib to cut the spleen in half.

The doctor at the game couldn't diagnose exactly what type of injury I had received. The doctor at the game had just told me to go home and if I don't feel better in the morning go to a doctor. The injury happened during the first quarter of the game and I ended up staying at the game until the end. Following the game, I was starting to be very light headed.

My dad took me from the game to the hospital emergency room instead of letting me going home on the team bus. When I got to the hospital, I could walk but only if I stopped every few steps to bend over to let blood get to my head. When I got to the hospital over 2/3rds of my blood was in my stomach cavity. I was told that if I had been 30 minutes later to the hospital, I would have died.

In the operating room prior to and possibly during surgery, I was above my body at the ceiling of the room. I was looking down at my body and trying to ask the nurses if they needed help moving me from the gurney to the operating table. I could hear them scrambling around yelling, 'He's in shock!' Then, I was in the whitest light experiencing the most loving, caring, peaceful feeling I ever felt, even to this day.

I had just turned 17 and a minute before, was not wanting to die. But when I was in the light, I didn't want to leave and go back to my body. I did return and here I am today.
