Experience Description

I was driving home in the snow and in the dark. I came to a fork in the road and started to veer to the right and immediately realized I should veer to the left instead. So, I quickly slammed on the brakes and turned the steering wheel to the left. I lost control of the car as it started sliding in the snow. I was unable to stop the car or get it to turn once it started sliding.

As the car slid toward a guard rail, I noticed that I was observing everything in slow motion from above and behind my body. I could see the back of my right shoulder and the blouse I was wearing. I was completely at peace during this time. I had many thoughts despite what I was seeing was in slow motion. I knew I had to let the car stop on it's own. The thoughts going through my mind were, 'Wow, everything is in slow motion; wow, that's me I am looking at in the front seat; I am unusually peaceful right now; I probably shouldn't have veered to the left and hit the brakes in the snow. So the left side of my card hit the guard rail and my mirror was snapped off and dangling and the tires came of the rims of my tires because my car had moved side ways when I lost control.'

As soon as the car stopped, I got out of the car. My soul was back in my body. I never heard a pop or any kind of noise when my soul left and re-entered my body. I wasn't hurt at all and was extremely calm when I got out of my car. I figure I was so calm because my soul had left my body until the car stopped. A car drove up beside me to help me and the couple in the car was more upset than I was.

How do you consider the content of your experience? Entirely pleasant

Did you feel separated from your body? Yes. I clearly left my body and existed outside it

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness? More consciousness and alertness than normal. I guess the slow-motion speed that I saw things at did not affect my thoughts because they were not in slow motion. I had a lot of time to think during the whole experience.

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness? When my soul left my body.

Were your thoughts speeded up? No

Did time seem to speed up or slow down? Time seemed to go faster or slower than usual. Things seemed to be in slow motion except my thoughts.

Were your senses More vivid than usual? Incredibly more vivid

Have your religious practices changed since your experience? Yes I pray more and read my Bible a lot.

What is your religion now? Christian- Protestant

Did your experience include features consistent with your earthly beliefs? Content that was entirely consistent with the beliefs you had at the time of your experience. My soul/spirit leaving my body is pretty much what I believed happened when you die. That my soul/spirit leaving my body while my body was still alive is consistent with my beliefs, other than I figured it only happened after death.

Did you have a change in your values and beliefs because of your experience? No

During your experience, did you gain information about an afterlife? An afterlife definitely exists. The fact that my soul left my physical body is an indication of life after death.

What life changes occurred in your life after your experience? Moderate changes in my life I pray more now and read my Bible, etc.

I remember the experience more accurately than other life events that occurred around the time of the experience. I have a very bad memory now, but I still remember that experience as though it happened just a few hours ago.

Have you ever shared this experience with others? Yes I probably shared it with my hubby and a few friends within a month of it happening.

Did you have any knowledge of near death experience (NDE) prior to your experience? Yes, I had heard about them and knew there were books out about them and soul travelling, etc.
