Experience Description

We were invited on a boat ride. My husband was asked to steer the boat to the shore while the owner parked his truck and trailer. During that time, my husband asked me to climb on the engine cover to make sure that the prop had dropped. Since it was a nice day, I decided to stay there. Unbeknownst to us, the gas had leaked into the engine compartment. When my husband went to start the motor, a spark caused an explosion. Since I had been sitting on the engine cover, I was thrown into the boat. When my husband realized what had happened to me, he flung me into the water.

I navigated my way to the shore, where I was received by people at the shore. An ambulance arrived and decided they needed to air-evacuate me to a burn center. I had received burns on about 20% of my body. While on the helicopter I received treatment and that is when I had my out of body experience.

At the time of your experience, was there an associated life-threatening event? Yes Accident Clinical death (cessation of breathing or heart function) I was in a boat explosion.

How do you consider the content of your experience? Entirely pleasant

Did you feel separated from your body? Yes. I saw my body lying on a stretcher, and I saw a nurse sitting next to me. I clearly left my body and existed outside it

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness? More consciousness and alertness than normal. My awareness during the experience had enhanced energy fields and an overwhelming calmness and feeling of being loved.

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness? When I was above my body looking down.

Were your thoughts speeded up? No

Did time seem to speed up or slow down? No

Were your senses More vivid than usual? Incredibly more vivid

Please compare your vision during the experience to your everyday vision that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience. My vision, as in the way I saw things during the experience was very different. I felt the energy of love. I saw loved ones, family and friends, whether they were alive or deceased, but not in the normal way. They were almost like transparent energy fields, but I knew who they were.

Please compare your hearing during the experience to your everyday hearing that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience. I do not remember hearing anything, but I remember having thoughts. And the thoughts were only filled with love.

Did you seem to be aware of things going on elsewhere? No

Did you pass into or through a tunnel? No

Did you see any beings in your experience? I sensed their presence

Did you encounter or become aware of any deceased (or alive) beings? Yes I saw my dad and it was a mixture of deceased and loved ones still alive. Also, I had thoughts, that I must’ve been communicating to someone I imagine. I was telling them that I couldn’t leave my husband because his previous wife had also died and I was worried about him.

Did you see, or feel surrounded by, a brilliant light? An unusually bright light

Did you see an unearthly light? Yes It was not a light in a tunnel, it was the energy fields that were glowing, and I knew who the people in the energy field were.

Did you seem to enter some other, unearthly world? A clearly mystical or unearthly realm. I could see my body below. But when I looked forward is when I saw the energy fields and almost transparent beings of family, friends and loved ones. They were just there, there was no environment around them. The energy feels seem to have a glow about them, and I knew who each person was.

What emotions did you feel during the experience? I felt intense emotions of love, but I also had an emotion of not being ready to be separated from my husband.

Did you have a feeling of peace or pleasantness? Incredible peace or pleasantness

Did you have a feeling of joy? Incredible joy

Did you feel a sense of harmony or unity with the universe? I felt united or one with the world

Did you suddenly seem to understand everything? No

Did scenes from your past come back to you? No

Did scenes from the future come to you? No

Did you come to a border or point of no return? I came to a definite conscious decision to return to life. I was communicating that I was not ready to die. But I don’t really know who I was communicating it to. I was not speaking words, I was only thinking thoughts. I believed I needed to come back because I was not ready to leave my husband, who had lost his wife. I felt that he still needed me.

God, Spiritual and Religion:

What was your religion prior to your experience? Christian- Other Christian I believe in God the father, son and holy spirit.

Have your religious practices changed since your experience? Yes I question more deeply the things I hear in the things I read.

What is your religion now? Christian- Other Christian I still believe there is a God, but I also believe there is an opportunity for reincarnation, guardian angels, and messages from the universe, in addition to the ability to have enhanced intuition.

Did your experience include features consistent with your earthly beliefs? Content that was entirely not consistent with the beliefs you had at the time of your experience. It’s difficult to explain, before the experience I would’ve imagined a God or a being meeting me when I died. My beliefs before this experience were completely different. I didn’t meet any being, and all communication was through a form of telepathy. I didn’t previously imagine seeing all my loved ones through energy, I imagined I would have seen them as human beings see each other on earth.

Did you have a change in your values and beliefs because of your experience? Yes I have a much more belief in spiritual awareness, intuition, and compassion for others; especially when I realize some people, just don’t get it.

Did you seem to encounter a mystical being or presence, or hear an unidentifiable voice? No

Did you see deceased or religious spirits? I sensed their presence

Did you encounter or become aware of any beings who previously lived on earth who are described by name in religions (for example: Jesus, Muhammad, Buddha, etc.)? Uncertain

During your experience, did you gain information about premortal existence? No

During your experience, did you gain information about universal connection or oneness? Yes The experience, convinced me that there is definitely more after this earthly experience.

During your experience, did you gain information about the existence of God? Yes I have to say yes, because of the overwhelming energy of love, and calmness, that I was surrounded by.

Concerning our Earthly lives other than Religion:

During your experience, did you gain special knowledge or information about your purpose? No

During your experience, did you gain information about the meaning of life? Yes Only love

During your experience, did you gain information about an afterlife? Uncertain In reflecting, I did not feel a sense of permanence if I were to have died. I believed I would have just turned into energy.

Did you gain information about how to live our lives? No

During your experience, did you gain information about life's difficulties, challenges and hardships? Uncertain Mostly that everything would be okay.

During your experience, did you gain information about love? Yes Difficult to put into words. The entire experience filled my being in my senses with love through visions thoughts, and energy.

What life changes occurred in your life after your experience? Large changes in my life. I definitely have access to enhanced intuition, and I’m not sure if I have accessed it or now I understand the meaning of it. I never really connected, that I was feeling other peoples' energy when I would encounter someone. Now I am very entertained to energies when I walk into a room. And I can read people much more easily than I could in the past.

Have your relationships changed specifically because of your experience? I give everyone the benefit of the doubt, I try to meet people with love and compassion, and I consciously become aware and filled with compassion if someone doesn’t understand, because I realize they just don’t understand.

After the NDE:

Was the experience difficult to express in words? No

How accurately do you remember the experience in comparison to other life events that occurred around the time of the experience? I remember the experience as accurately as other life events that occurred around the time of the experience. I have a vague recollection of what I did the day of the experience. But, I have very clear recollection from the moment I got on the boat and throughout my out of body experience.

Do you have any psychic, non-ordinary or other special gifts after your experience that you did not have before the experience? Yes I can definitely read energies more clearly now. And I can anticipate and connect to people that are on my same energy level more readily.

Are there one or several parts of your experience that are especially meaningful or significant to you? It has become increasingly significant in my life to show love and compassion and empathy to others.

Have you ever shared this experience with others? Yes I am not sure when I started to share the experience. But I definitely know some people completely disregarded it and thought it was insignificant. So I think that I stopped talking about it for a few years. But most recently, I believe my spiritual reality has become increasingly enhanced the more I study and research, not only near death experiences but other components of other worldly beings.

Did you have any knowledge of near death experience (NDE) prior to your experience? No

What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened? Experience was definitely real. I knew it happened, but at the time I had no understanding of the significance of the experience and the changes that would eventually occur in my spirituality.

What do you believe about the reality of your experience now? Experience was definitely real. I know this definitely happened. I have had many changes in my beliefs, my intuition, and my relationships with others.

At any time in your life, has anything ever reproduced any part of the experience? Yes I have been doing chakra work, trying to unblock chakras. And some of the imagery that I have, is similar to the images I saw in my near death experience. Interestingly, I never really thought about it until you asked this question.
