Experience Description Jane and I left early that day to hike the Galena Forest trails. We had planned to complete a 10 mile hike, but she was physically ill. After vomiting on the trail, she was complaining about a headache and chills. She admitted to suffering from opioid withdraw symptoms. She gave up after 1.5 miles. I was mad but couldn’t show it because I had to shower at her place because my water was shut off for repairs. I didn’t want it to be awkward. Jane told me she’d still let me shower at her place, but that I wasn’t going to be happy with her because she needed to contact her dealer for more opioids because she was so sick. I agreed to go with her to pick some up. I just wanted to shower and go back home. Four weeks prior to this, I had orally taken one opioid pill that I had gotten from Jane. All it did for me was to make me throw up. So this time, I wasn’t interested in doing any myself. Jane somehow convinced me that if I snorted a very small portion of it, I wouldn’t get sick but still feel the effects. I agreed to try it. We picked up the pills and went to Del Taco. I was eating my meal in the restaurant, while she snorted the pill in the bathroom. I finished my meal and went to park away from cars in the shopping center, so I could try it. She showed me how to do it. We talked a bit and I remember jokingly asking her if people overdosed with this. She said, 'Yes, but not from such a small amount.' I worked up the courage and snorted it. It didn't take long until I was already feeling the effects fast and hard. My body was tingling so intensely and I remember thinking that I took too much. Then, I saw myself sitting in the passenger seat. I was looking down and to my right, as if I was above the driver. Then everything went dark. The next thing I remember was waking up in an ambulance and seeing two paramedics. One very nice one and one was a mean one. The nice one was very gently asking me questions about myself, what I was doing and what I had consumed. I knew the correct answers, but I lied and said I didn’t know what happened. The mean one was getting impatient. He blurted out that I was number three because I was the third overdose of the day. I’ll never forget that. The nice paramedic began telling me how the fire department was actually the ones to save my life. He said that they thought I wasn’t going to make it and that it was close.
