Experience Description 9857: It was late at night. My family and I had gone to watch a film in the family station wagon at the local drive-in. I was in the passenger seat and my father at the wheel. My mother was in the middle row of seats with my baby brother. My little brother was in the back sleeping in a bed made of blankets and pillows. After the show was over, we were on our way home. A drunk driver was speeding in the lane of oncoming traffic. This drunk driver swerved out of his lane and directly in front of our vehicle in the opposite lane. It would have been a full head-on collision if my father hadn’t acted quickly and tried to swerve out of the way. However, my side of the front of the vehicle did fully crash into the drunk driver. Although it happened extremely fast, from my perspective, it happened in slow motion and was very confusing. I remember being in complete darkness. It felt warm and I felt like I was floating. It was like I was enveloped in darkness but I felt safe and comfortable, despite feeling a little scared. It felt like when I open my eyes at night when I’m in bed, before my eyes adjust. When I looked up, I could see a light. This light was a warm sort of white but it was also a golden light. It was positioned in the distance, above me and at an angle towards the right. I felt an impulse of wanting to go towards it. But then I telepathically heard a voice. I didn’t feel scared. I think it was a comfort that I wasn’t alone. The voice told me that it wasn’t my time to go yet; that I was just a child and had my whole life ahead of me. I was told that I had to return to consciousness in real life. I felt like this made sense and I sort of knew what it was saying. So I did come back. Next thing I remember is that I was in the car struggling to open my eyes. I was not in any pain, before or afterwards. There was blood and glass everywhere. People were trying to pull me out of the car wreckage. I tried to ask what happened, but was very confused. I had my face mangled in cuts from the broken glass and glass in my eyes, head trauma, and other bodily injuries. I was rushed to the emergency room. I was wearing my school uniform, which was a top and skirt. Back then, we did not wear helmets. There was a section of busy traffic that I had to cross in my bicycle. I had to ride across two lanes of traffic at a street with four-way stop sign. I looked in both directions for cars, there was nothing coming so I pushed through to continue riding across. A vehicle came speeding up one of the lanes and drove right through the stop sign. The vehicle t-boned me sideways. I flew off my bicycle and into the air. My bicycle flew in the opposite direction. I went unconscious. Then, I was floating above my body and could see myself lying on the road. There were people around me. I could clearly see the accident scene. Then I realized that I was out of my body. I did not feel any pain. I was feeling calm until I realized what was happening. When I became aware that it was my body below, I felt a slight panic. I thought that I better get back into my body! I was scared that my father would be angry at me because my bicycle was wrecked. I also felt a panic realizing that my skirt was up over my legs and I felt embarrassed. So immediately I felt my 'self' being sucked back into my body. Then I was in my body and physically conscious again.
