Experience Description

I had been bleeding heavily because of a placenta Previa. It took hours to get to the emergency room. I woke up looking down on myself from up by the ceiling. I wasn't frightened; I tried to tell everyone working on me that I was okay.

They couldn't hear me. The doctor was shouting at a maintenance man to hurry up with some wooden blocks. They were putting them under the foot-end of the bed. And he was shouting about the blood - where was it? When he said, 'It's too late.' I instantly left the room. (It was a huge room-that was strange; I worked at the same hospital and there wasn't a room like that anywhere.)

Now I was moving in a wonderful soft pinkish-golden presence. The presence with me was Love and Peace and I was wrapped inside. It was quiet and so beautiful that I wanted to stay there forever. Outside of this presence was a golden light. I was lifted up and up. I was aware that I had to go back and I didn't want to. Then in an instant, I was back in my body. I opened my eyes and there was blood hanging on the IV pole. Everyone seemed glad to see me.

I will never be afraid to die; I have longed for that place of Peace and Love ever since.

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness? More consciousness and alertness than normal When I was being lifted up toward that golden light.

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness? When I was being lifted up toward that golden light.

Were your thoughts speeded up? Incredibly fast

Did time seem to speed up or slow down? Everything seemed to be happening at once; or time stopped or lost all meaning I was probably gone for minutes from this world and what seemed a long time on that other journey.

Were your senses more vivid than usual? Incredibly more vivid

Did you pass into or through a tunnel? Uncertain I left the room, but I don't remember a tunnel; everything was with me at once. I was moving toward a brilliant golden light.

Did you see any beings in your experience? I actually saw them

Did you encounter or become aware of any deceased (or alive) beings? Yes I didn't see other beings but felt the One with me.

Did you see an unearthly light? Yes My whole experience was in a bright pinkish-golden light.

What was your religion prior to your experience? Liberal Presbyterian Sunday school

Have your religious practices changed since your experience? Uncertain Organized religion seems like a step backwards. I want to shout at them. (To open their eyes.)

What is your religion now? Liberal I am a Christian; no organized religion.

Did you seem to encounter a mystical being or presence, or hear an unidentifiable voice? I encountered a definite being, or a voice clearly of mystical or unearthly origin

Did you see deceased or religious spirits? I actually saw them

Concerning our Earthly lives other than Religion:

During your experience, did you gain special knowledge or information about your purpose? Yes In my work at the hospital, I came across many people in critical conditions. I could tell by their faces that they had crossed to that beautiful place.

Have your relationships changed specifically because of your experience? Yes I see things differently; am more tolerant.

After the NDE:

Was the experience difficult to express in words? Yes It's hard to communicate only because there are no words or earthly things to compare to the feeling and vision.

Do you have any psychic, non-ordinary or other special gifts after your experience that you did not have before the experience? No

Are there one or several parts of your experience that are especially meaningful or significant to you? Being wrapped in unconditional love. I always thought I had to do something here on earth to earn it. That it was for me was a revelation.

Have you ever shared this experience with others? Yes About six years later I shared with a church group. I couldn't tell if they believed me.

Did you have any knowledge of near death experience (NDE) prior to your experience? No

What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened? Experience was definitely real I will never forget this experience. It is as real as breathing, smiling, loving, and waking up in the morning with the sun on your face.

What do you believe about the reality of your experience now? Experience was definitely real I think I just answered this question!
