Experience Description

I overdosed on multiple types of drugs. I remember thinking I was just so high that I was tripping out. As I was walking down the hallways, it began to shrink down on me and become very narrow. I was bouncing off of the walls. I fell, crawled to the couch, and somehow laid down.

Next thing I know, I am looking at my body from above the living room. Time was standing still, almost nonexistent. As my three friends were trying to wake me up, my eyes were open. They thought I was playing a joke on them. I could see and hear everything that was going on from above my body. My stepbrothers were playing on the television. My body was burning, like I was on fire. In my outer body, I was screaming and begging God to give me another chance, but nothing was coming out verbally. I could only hear and see what was happening, but not able to interact verbally.

I remember coming back to my body. My heart was racing. I jumped up, stripped down naked, and got into the cold bath tub because I thought I was on fire. Later, I found out that I was unconscious for 45 minutes and had no pulse. I was traumatized for a few months. I was fighting through anxiety attacks, panic attacks and sleep paralysis most days. 13 years later, I have never touched a single drug since. I am a healthy 30-year-old with no health complications.

At the time of your experience, was there an associated life-threatening event? Yes. Drug or medication overdose. Life threatening event, but not clinical death

How do you consider the content of your experience? Neither pleasant NOR distressing

Did you feel separated from your body? Yes I was watching my friends try to wake me and then discuss that I was dead. I have also had Deja vu experiences from that experience. I clearly left my body and existed outside it

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness? Less consciousness and alertness than normal. My consciousness was nonexistent but my alertness was very high.

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness? I was alert, just from outside of my body.

Were your thoughts speeded up? Faster than usual

Did time seem to speed up or slow down? Everything seemed to be happening at once; or time stopped or lost all meaning. It felt like it lasted a couple of minutes, but it was 45 minutes.

Were your senses More vivid than usual? Incredibly more vivid

Did you pass into or through a tunnel? Yes I believe the hallway that caved in on me was the tunnel

Did you see an unearthly light? Uncertain Darkness is what I remember

What emotions did you feel during the experience? Scared and hopeless.

Did scenes from your past come back to you? My past flashed before me, out of my control

Did scenes from the future come to you? Scenes from my personal future. There have been times in life where I have felt Deja vu directed from that night.

What was your religion prior to your experience? Christian- Other Christian I claimed to be a Christian but was not living the lifestyle of a Christian.

Have your religious practices changed since your experience? Yes My Christian faith is much more of a lifestyle now.

What is your religion now? Christian- Other Christian Today I am a devout Christian.

Did your experience include features consistent with your earthly beliefs? Content that was both consistent and not consistent with the beliefs you had at the time of your experience

Did you have a change in your values and beliefs because of your experience? Yes I have never touched drugs since.

Was the experience difficult to express in words? Yes Nobody believed me. To this day people make fun of the situation, thinking it was just a trip.
