Experience Description

I suffered a fall and a blow to my head. Unconscious for 5 hours, in that time, I had ingested large amounts of blood and my lungs were failing. At some time, I later had a dream or experience that remains today, as clear as ever. I had other dreams over this period, but they have since diminished in detail.

I was moving through a dark tunnel, toward a very bright light, the light did not cause any discomfort to my eyes, in any way. I felt drawn to this light and felt a strong tranquility and a feeling of a path to peace. To the left of this light appeared my son's face, no other part of his body, but it was as clear as anything was. He spoke the words, 'Don't do it Dad. Dad don't go', as clear as anything. The light began to dim and I felt myself recede from the tunnel.

I found out later that when my son came home from the hospital, he would pray for me and write things down, wanting me to get better.

At the time of your experience, was there an associated life-threatening event? Yes Accident. CPR given. Direct head injury. Other: Unknown at the time. Severe brain injury (cerebral hematoma). I was given very little chance, if any, of recovery.

How do you consider the content of your experience? Entirely pleasant

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness? I felt alert during the experience, but not aware of anything else.

Were your senses more vivid than usual? More vivid than usual

Did you pass into or through a tunnel? Yes Blackness, no solid form or definite shape.

Did you see any beings in your experience? No

Did you see, or feel surrounded by, a brilliant light? No

Did you see an unearthly light? Yes It was a bright light, like a bulb but it did not hurt my eyes.

Did you seem to enter some other, unearthly world? No

What emotions did you feel during the experience? Maybe the feelings of peace and safety.

Did you have a feeling of peace or pleasantness? Incredible peace or pleasantness

What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened? Experience was probably real It had something, other than a dream, that was different.

What do you believe about the reality of your experience now? Experience was definitely real It was a call for me to turn back from death and to carry on living. It has not diminished in any way.
