Experience Description

I was immediately transported to a dark room where a man was sitting beside me for comfort. I never saw his face and he never spoke to me. I knew I was dying and kept repeating, 'Why is it taking so long?' and 'I just want to move on.' I would walk from one side of this room to the other and this man would stay right beside me. Then off to my left, a bright white light appeared. In that light, I felt my deceased mother’s presence. I felt so much peace and comfort that I was reaching with both arms for her to take me into the light. Then a hand appeared in front of me, motioning me to stop. Then a finger pointing down. I knew then I was being told to go back. I can't explain the disappointment and sadness of not entering the light with my mother. Then a male voice said to me, 'There can't be two Randall R's on earth.'

At the time of your experience, was there an associated life-threatening event? Yes Clinical death (cessation of breathing or heart function or brain function) Respiratory failure from Guillian Barre syndrome with cessation of breathing before intubation.

How do you consider the content of your experience? Entirely pleasant

Did you feel separated from your body? No I clearly left my body and existed outside it

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness? More consciousness and alertness than normal I now knew there was something after death because of the light and my feelings of peace.

Content that was both consistent and not consistent with the beliefs you had at the time of your experience I believed you just saw a light and were taken to heaven. I now know you have a waiting period before you can move on and someone will be by your side to comfort you at this time.

Did you have a change in your values and beliefs because of your experience? Yes I now believe I have a purpose to be here, but at this time I don't know what it is.

Did you seem to encounter a mystical being or presence, or hear an unidentifiable voice? I encountered a definite being, or a voice clearly of mystical or unearthly origin I felt the presence of my deceased mother at the opening to the light.
