Experience Description

My mother, Rose G, was in the intensive care unit (ICU) after her spleen ruptured. She called me to come closer, as I was sitting nearby.

She told me that she had been on an elevator. As the elevator moved, she got out and saw my father who has passed. He was sitting on a bench he made. He was young and smiling at her. They both laughed. She felt great joy seeing my dad. She went back to the elevator and saw a moment in time where I was packing the car with my best friend and we were moving overseas. She explained to me she had no idea how sad I was that day.

She went back to the elevator and saw her mother cooking and smiling in the kitchen. My mom told me she could smell the food. Suddenly there was immense peace and love. She repeated this to me several times. There were a group of men dressed like monks who told her she had to go back to the elevator and return to her body. She did not want to leave the Peace and Love she felt. Someone told her it was not her time because she had more work to do. She was very unhappy about leaving.

She was in the hospital for weeks and only spoke to me about the experience, over and over again. She told me she was not afraid to die. She kept telling me that the Peace, light and Love was like nothing she had ever felt. It's been two years and my mother has been totally bedridden and on Hospice. She is not able to care for herself in any way. She had been extremely independent prior to this serious illness. She now lives in a board and Care and gets high quality care. My mother has spoken to me and my 4 brothers about our difficult life in the past and tells us how much she loves us, which is something she never said prior to this experience. At times she has mentioned to me she was sent back to work things out with her children. We all spend quality time with her and enjoy hearing about our Italian heritage and the relatives she was close to. The experience changed my mother immensely. Although we are grateful for this special time with her, it is very difficult to see her so very frail and weak. We all feel we have received a gift and know when it is our mother's time, she will be a great peace.

How do you consider the content of your experience? Entirely pleasant

Did you feel separated from your body? No. I lost awareness of my body

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness? More consciousness and alertness than normal The feelings of Peace and Love she has never experienced before.

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness? As she came off the elevator each time. Also, the group on Monks telling her she needed to return.

Were your thoughts speeded up? No

Did time seem to speed up or slow down? Time seemed to go faster or slower than usual. I enjoyed the joys and love that I felt

Were your senses More vivid than usual? Incredibly more vivid

Please compare your hearing during the experience to your everyday hearing that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience. She did not hear anyone speaking, she could feel their thoughts.

Did you encounter or become aware of any deceased (or alive) beings? Yes Saw my deceased Husband and my mother.

Did you see, or feel surrounded by, a brilliant light? A light clearly of mystical or other-worldly origin

Did you seem to enter some other, unearthly world? A clearly mystical or unearthly realm. I was so happy but also felt sad seeing how sad my daughter was at that moment.

What emotions did you feel during the experience? Joy, Peace and Love.

Did you have a feeling of peace or pleasantness? Incredible peace or pleasantness

Did scenes from your past come back to you? My past flashed before me, out of my control Saw my daughter packing the car with luggage. We were moving to Holland and she was leaving her best friend. I felt her pain.

Did you come to a border or point of no return? I came to a barrier that I was not permitted to cross; or was sent back against my will. I was told I had more work to do and needed to go back.

Did your experience include features consistent with your earthly beliefs? Content that was entirely not consistent with the beliefs you had at the time of your experience. I had not been aware of her feelings, yet I actually felt them

Did you have a change in your values and beliefs because of your experience? Yes I knew I had more work to do with my family relationships

Did you seem to encounter a mystical being or presence, or hear an unidentifiable voice? I heard a voice I could not identify. I saw the Monks but did not know who told me I had more work to do

During your experience, did you gain information about the existence of God? Yes God was the Peace, Joy and Love I felt

Concerning our Earthly lives other than Religion:

During your experience, did you gain special knowledge or information about your purpose? Yes I did not know how painful it was for my daughter to leave that day.

During your experience, did you gain information about the meaning of life? Yes I was told I needed to return to do more work

During your experience, did you gain information about an afterlife? Yes My husband was young and happy, we laughed like we did when we were young. I could smell my mother's cooking.

What life changes occurred in your life after your experience? Moderate changes in my life . I am working on my relationships with my children. I tell them I love them everyday

Have your relationships changed specifically because of your experience? I have taken great time talking with each of my children about the past and the mother I was. Yes

Are there one or several parts of your experience that are especially meaningful or significant to you? The LOVE JOY and PEACE was not of this earth. I tell my children LOVE is all that matters

Have you ever shared this experience with others? Yes I told only my daughter while I was in the hospital. I could not wait to tell her but wanted to speak with her in private. It was very real. My daughter was shocked to hear about me seeing her packing the car. It was a very painful day and no one seemed to notice at the time.

What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened? Experience was definitely real. I told my daughter the day I became awake while in ICU.
