Experience Description

My husband and I were visiting an ailing cousin in southern Maryland. All day, I felt stressed and began to have a headache. After we left my cousin's house to go to our hotel, we went to dinner and then I wanted to go to bed right away because I was so tired.

In the morning, about 7:00 a.m., I awoke suddenly feeling very calm and with the feeling that I had just visited a very spiritual place. I had gone through a tunnel but the light at the end was not all that bright. I saw a lot of figures standing at the end of the tunnel. They seemed to be sepia- colored. They almost had the appearance of Monks. I felt great happiness and comfort and utter, complete love. I remember being so happy there and I did not want to leave. The most profound feeling of gentle beauty and love surrounded me but something was telling me it wasn't time for me to be there. That is when I woke up, much to my disappointment.

At the time of your experience, was there an associated life-threatening event? Uncertain. Heart attack. 'Extreme stress, headache, shortness of breath' 'Illness, trauma or other condition not considered life threatening' 'Extreme stress, headache, shortness of breath' I was told a week after the NDE that I had had a myocardial infarction. I had been under a lot of stress from visiting an antagonistic relative and wasn't feeling well before I went to sleep the night of the event. Because it was verified as a heart attack, I presume it was a life threatening event.

How do you consider the content of your experience? Entirely pleasant

Did you feel separated from your body? No I lost awareness of my body

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness? More consciousness and alertness than normal

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness? Right before coming back, before waking up: I felt totally aware of a world full of love and happiness.

Were your thoughts speeded up? Faster than usual

Did time seem to speed up or slow down? No

Were your senses more vivid than usual? More vivid than usual

Please compare your vision during the experience to your everyday vision that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience. My vision was misty; I could not make out the faces of the forms surrounding me. Unlike some people who have gone through this, I did not recognize any loved ones: only that there were 'spirits' or beings around me in this sepia-color.

Please compare your hearing during the experience to your everyday hearing that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience. I don't remember hearing as such; everything was more emotional, as if communicated non-verbally.

What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened? Experience was definitely real I had no doubts as to the reality of my experience. I knew it to be true.
