Experience Description We were awoken in the middle of the night by a phone call from my wife's sister-in-law. She was calling to inform us that my wife's mother, who had been battling melanoma, was in her final moments. We got up. I was feeling unwell and went to the emergency room. My wife left to go to her mother's side. I arrived at the hospital and was taken into triage. They took blood and administered some tests, ultimately chalking up my anxiety to the events that were unfolding. They told me to go home and rest, so I did. I was called by the head of the emergency room a few minutes after I arrived at home and asked why I had left. I told him that I was discharged. He said that I wasn't supposed to be and that they did not have the test results back yet. He gave me choices that I could either come back, they could send an ambulance, or I could wait for a call. I elected to wait for a call. They called back shortly after and said that I was having or had had a heart attack. I drove myself back, and was rushed in. While I was being re-admitted they were struggling to get an IV line into my arm. The nurse who they'd called in to assist happened to be a childhood friend. I asked him, 'How serious is this?' He told me it was pretty serious. So, I got texts/calls out to my parents and my wife. At that time, I didn't have anything else to do but to close my eyes and pray. I began repeating the 'Our Father' prayer over and over again. In an instant, I was in like a train depot or some sort of meeting place. There were clusters of light all throughout the room. I liken them to the visual effects that Star Trek used when beaming people in and out. They were bright and brilliant light that provided a peaceful feeling. I focused on one of them and went over to it. As I drew closer, I saw that it was my mother-in-law who had passed away not more than an hour or two before. I experienced an overwhelming feeling of calmness and peace. At first I thought I was going with her, but then it became clear that she was there in some capacity to let me know that I was going to be okay. I awoke on the gurney and surrounded by doctors. They still were working on getting an IV in my arm. By that time, I had calmed down. I was no longer worried about what was going to happen. What felt like 60 or more minutes engaging with my mother-in-law turned out to be mere seconds. Prior to the event, I was always a very anxious person. I used to over-think and drive myself crazy worrying about situations that I had no control over. Since that experience, I haven't had the same problem. Since that day I've been a little bit more in-tune with my God-given intuition on things.
