Experience Description

I followed a truck in a hilly, semi-rural area. It was driving erratically for about 20 minutes. I tried to overtake it, but it wasn’t safe. So, I watched it fly down hills and speeding well over the limit.

Eventually, it approached a steep hill. I slowed down, leaving a large gap between us because something didn’t feel right. The truck made it halfway up the hill, then started rolling backward. At first, I thought the driver was reversing. But the truck kept gaining speed and snaking back toward me and the cars behind me. It was morning peak-hour. Realizing it was out of control, I knew I had to act fast. I didn’t want to be sandwiched between the truck and the vehicles behind me.

I remembered my ex-husband’s advice: keep your wheels straight ahead when waiting to turn at intersections or driveways. This way, if you’re hit from behind, your car moves straight forward and not into oncoming traffic. I tried to apply this here, thinking I didn’t want to crash into the cars behind me when the truck hit.

Quickly, I decided to turn the wheel and reverse into the oncoming traffic lane next to me, as no cars were coming down the hill. I figured the truck would push me sideways and out of the way of the cars behind me. I put the car in reverse, moved into the lane beside me, and looked up. The truck was right there. The last thing I remember was seeing the back of the truck in front of me.

In that instant, I knew there was no hope. I consciously realized this, and then suddenly, I found myself in a white space. I couldn’t tell if it was a room or something else, but I knew I was in a space. I heard a voice from above and to my right say, 'When it stops, get out.' There was no question in my mind, I would follow this advice.

I waited in the silent whiteness as the truck collided with my car, pushing it backward and crumpling it against a brick fence under its own weight. In that quiet moment, I consciously asked, 'Has it stopped yet?' But I kept waiting, surrounded by stillness.

Then suddenly, color and sound flooded back into my world. Without a second thought, I climbed out of the car and ran to safety.

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness? More consciousness and alertness than normal. The world stood still. All focus was the words 'When it stops, get out'. There was nothing but that. My focus was on those words and I just waited to put them into action. I was thinking 'Has it stopped?' I was not sure how I was meant to know when it stopped? I was not really thinking; I was in a accident.

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness? When I was making decisions regarding moving the car into the best position, I was alert and able to thinking quickly and clearly. When I was in the white space, there was no sound. I was calm and felt I was being looked after and knew I just needed to listen. I was alert, yet felt there was no need for action from me. It was being done for me.

You will not have to experience pain and you will experience a consciousness that we have not experienced before. There are synchronicities and I believe we are placed in the place at the right time. 1. My apartment electronic door would not lock so I had to leave with it unlocked and hoping no one notices. After the accident, my keys were in the wreck and I did not get them until the next day yet I could still get into the apartment. 2. I was not meant to go that way yet I did and I stopped at convenience store to get some lunch for the day. I saw a girl in line with her lunch for the day and I smiled and said ' have a great day'. 20 minutes later the accident happened. I was told another car behind me was hit as well. I wanted to meet her before I went to hospital. It was girl from the convenience store. 3. We exchanged numbers and she told me that she had only just got her license and she would not have known what to do. If she was in front of me she said she would have frozen and the truck would have sandwiched us. 4. Me turning the wheel led the truck on an arc moving up the hill, away from all of the cars and bringing it to a stop in a brick wall, saving everyone behind me.

After the NDE:

Was the experience difficult to express in words? No

How accurately do you remember the experience in comparison to other life events that occurred around the time of the experience? I remember the experience more accurately than other life events that occurred around the time of the experience. I can remember every second and it was 5/6 years ago.

Do you have any psychic, non-ordinary or other special gifts after your experience that you did not have before the experience? Yes I have always had knowings. I work with children and I think this is why I came here.

Are there one or several parts of your experience that are especially meaningful or significant to you? Before this happened, as I drove to work, I was thinking about my family and how they won't let me be me. That if I died, they would selfishly want my funeral in Sydney. I live in a different state now. I was thinking of that and the accident happened.

Have you ever shared this experience with others? Yes I started telling my energy healer. I have a community that understands this. I know my experience so I share it. The psychologist said it was disassociating and then I think she thought I was molested as a child as I disassociated so easily. I had a lot of trauma after this. I don't talk about it often yet I actually told the story to someone today. Some people try to tell me that a NDE means you have to hover over your body and refuse to believe I had one.

Did you have any knowledge of near death experience (NDE) prior to your experience? No

What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened? Experience was definitely real. I was spending a lot of time trying to recover. I was a teacher and I had to write reports. I spent a lot of time trying to force myself to drive so that I was not scared by the experience. The experience I had was secondary. I really just wanted to stop the trauma. I was having panic attacks etc.

What do you believe about the reality of your experience now? Experience was definitely real. It happened and I can remember it perfectly. I love that I was sitting there thinking 'how do I know when it stops'. I really was in nothingness not worrying about a thing and trusting without question this voice. When I climbed out of the car. I sat on a step and heard a voice wailing; I then realized it was me.

At any time in your life, has anything ever reproduced any part of the experience? No
