Experience Description

My mom passed away three and a half years prior to when I had this experience.

I was in a dark area where my mom, myself, and a few other people I didn't know were basked in a blue-white glow. I want to say we were standing around a stone table. My mom was holding my hand and I kept wanting to leave. But she kept telling me that I had to stay for a little while longer because I needed time to get better. My mother was so beautiful and looked to be about my age, although she was 53 when she passed away. She told me that I had a beautiful baby daughter and that I had to go back because my daughter needed me. My mother eventually let me go back and I woke up.

When I woke up, it took me a little while to stay awake. Then I tried to talk, but couldn't because I was intubated. I asked for a pen and paper. I asked what day it was and what time. My dad said it was the next evening. He asked why I asked. I wrote because it seemed like a lot of time had passed. I felt a great sense of gratitude that I was alive.

NDE Elements:

At the time of your experience, was there an associated life-threatening event? Yes. Illness. Childbirth. While under general anesthesia. Life threatening event, but not clinical death. I had kidney and heart failure which caused me to have flash pulmonary edema. These were complications from me having severe preeclampsia at 35 weeks of being pregnant. I was drowning. They took me into surgery for an emergency c-section under general anesthesia. I was then put into a medically-induced coma. They woke me up twenty hours later.

How do you consider the content of your experience? Entirely pleasant

Did you feel separated from your body? Uncertain Uncertain I lost awareness of my body

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness? More consciousness and alertness than normal. It felt more because I felt like I was using more senses then the usual five. It also felt like I didn't have a body weighing me down.

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness? When I was with my mom

Were your thoughts speeded up? Faster than usual

Did time seem to speed up or slow down? Everything seemed to be happening at once; or time stopped or lost all meaning. I don't really know how to explain it but it felt like I was with my mom for a long time but yet hardly any time at all.

Were your senses More vivid than usual? Incredibly more vivid

Please compare your vision during the experience to your everyday vision that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience. Everything right in front of me seemed like my vision was seeing in 4K ultra. Back aways was fuzzy, but I think it was because I couldn't stop staring at my mom.

Please compare your hearing during the experience to your everyday hearing that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience. I don't really know. It was more like my mom was speaking to me telepathically

Did you see, or feel surrounded by, a brilliant light? A light clearly of mystical or other-worldly origin

Did you see an unearthly light? Yes It was a bluish-white glow

Did you seem to enter some other, unearthly world? A clearly mystical or unearthly realm. It seemed like an 'in between' or a waiting place. But I seemed aware that people who were there were from heaven or a better place.

What emotions did you feel during the experience? I felt happy, relieved, and calmness

Did you have a feeling of peace or pleasantness? Relief or calmness

Did you have a feeling of joy? Incredible joy

Did you feel a sense of harmony or unity with the universe? I felt no longer in conflict with nature

Was the experience difficult to express in words? Yes Because it's all just very hard to describe

Are there one or several parts of your experience that are especially meaningful or significant to you? Seeing my mom again

Have you ever shared this experience with others? Yes Five months

Did you have any knowledge of near death experience (NDE) prior to your experience? Yes Just from what I've seen or heard on TV. It didn't affect my experience.

What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened? Experience was definitely real. I knew it wasn't a dream because it felt more real then life itself.
