Experience Description

My experience may not seem to be the proudest to some. But, I have a feeling that a particular part of this is needed by someone, so I feel inspired to write it.

In April 2020, my mother passed unexpectedly. I was her emergency number, so I was contacted. She hit her head and passed away that night. I was coming in another state. When I got to her home, I saw the blood where she had fallen down. Fast forward 1-1/2 years later. I still mourned her especially because she was alone. I felt like she was scared and hurting although she went to sleep and passed over.

In July 2021 my father was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. On the same day, at 4:30 am I passed out and was life-flighted to the hospital. Unbeknownst to me, I had a bleeding ulcer. I went through all of the bodily stages of dying except my heartbeat didn't flatline. I didn’t die, but basically had no bodily senses except at some points I did have hearing. At one point, I had this wave of all earthly stresses wash away. Then I had the most overwhelming feeling of love that I have ever felt. Words cannot express this. When I came back to consciousness the next day, I somehow knew that the reason for my experience was to let me know that my mom didn’t suffer; that she was at peace and my father would also be at peace when it was his time.

After he passed, I struggled and wanted to die. I couldn’t shake the pain. One night, I cried until I had nothing left. Then I had two thoughts come to my mind; one was to listen and the other was don’t question. I closed my eyes, still crying but tossing and turning for about another 1/2 hour. Then there was a bright light in the room, so I opened my eyes. It was piercing through the window and it looked like a pinhole where it originated and opened up to me. The light was extremely bright but didn’t hurt my eyes. It was comforting. I reached towards it and my hand sort of melted into it. What I mean is that it went around my hand; not like the sun where your hand blocks the light. Instantly, I knew I was loved and would be ok. The light grew bigger and I knew I had to turn away because it wasn’t my time to go. I knew that if I kept looking at the light, my desire of leaving this world would be granted. After that, I have only cried once for my parents but it wasn’t the same. That night, my pain was healed.

After that I remembered an experience, which I truly believe was an OBE, when I was about a year old. I always remembered the experience like it was yesterday but it never occurred to me that my viewpoint wasn’t from my body.

One night, I was in the backseat of the car with my sister. My parents were in the front seat. This incident happened before seatbelts and car seats were installed in cars. I opened the back door and flew out into a ditch. For anyone not familiar with the ditches in the southern USA they are huge and really deep. From this moment, I was looking at the whole scene from above. I saw my mom turn and look in the backseat and she let my dad know in a panic that I had fallen out. I saw them stopping and jumping out of the car to look for me. I still remember thinking how pretty my mom’s hair was and what they were wearing. Then my father yelled frantically 'Thea where are you!' In a second I was back in the ditch and a huge cockroach was crawling to my face, so I started screaming and crying. This is what alerted them to where I was at.

If I had to say anything about my experiences, remember that the other side is real. We do exist outside of this life. Believe. Do good. Open your heart to others. I know I have been healed and shown what is meant of me in this life because of these experiences. If this helped you then it was also a reason for what happened to me. Love you all.

At the time of your experience, was there an associated life-threatening event? Yes Illness Trauma being thrown from vehicle. Other: Almost died; lost half my blood in the body; it was an internally bleeding ulcer and I was life-flighted for surgery.

How do you consider the content of your experience? Entirely pleasant

Did you feel separated from your body? Yes I clearly left my body and existed outside it

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness? More consciousness and alertness than normal. More alert and more ability to remember and never forget anything about it

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness? While closest to death and when I had the OBE

Were your senses More vivid than usual? More vivid than usual

Did you see, or feel surrounded by, a brilliant light? A light clearly of mystical or other-worldly origin

Did you see an unearthly light? Yes It was a beautiful, extremely bright light but didn’t hurt my eyes. The light enveloped my hand when I reached out to it

Did you seem to enter some other, unearthly world? No

What emotions did you feel during the experience? Peace and love

Did you have a feeling of peace or pleasantness? Incredible peace or pleasantness

Did you have a feeling of joy? No

Did you feel a sense of harmony or unity with the universe? I felt no longer in conflict with nature

What was your religion prior to your experience? Christian- Other Christian I had chosen to be nondenominational. Christian

Have your religious practices changed since your experience? Yes My beliefs have expanded to understand how vast and loving our creator and fellow spirits are in our true home

What is your religion now? Christian- Other Christian I feel the same other than my knowledge is largely expanded a lot due to reading other NDEs. They have helped me understand and piece together the trueness of life after this world.

Did your experience include features consistent with your earthly beliefs? Content that was entirely consistent with the beliefs you had at the time of your experience. I always believed in God and Heaven. But I know those are just mortal descriptions to help us understand and remember. The truth of our creator and existence is so much more.

Did you have a change in your values and beliefs because of your experience? Yes I don’t believe that religion is anything more than man made. But it is important so that people who need it can hopefully grow to be more in tune with our creator and our spiritual selves until religion isn’t needed for that person any longer.

Did you seem to encounter a mystical being or presence, or hear an unidentifiable voice? No

Did you see deceased or religious spirits? No

During your experience, did you gain information about life's difficulties, challenges and hardships? Yes They don’t matter. They washed away and left peace in me

What life changes occurred in your life after your experience? Large changes in my life

Have your relationships changed specifically because of your experience? Yes It has put a wedge between me and my spouse. He doesn’t say anything when I talk to him about it. We have an unspoken distance now because I think he believes I am reaching for something that doesn’t exist

Have you ever shared this experience with others? Yes The OBE - just my sister and no response from her. The Light - just my sister and no response. The life threatening event - many close people in my life. None but one sister has given me feedback and believed. No one else seems to believe or care, so I have started keeping it to myself

Did you have any knowledge of near death experience (NDE) prior to your experience? Uncertain I had seen programs on TV, but never really followed it

What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened? Experience was definitely real
