Experience Description Was beginning my second round of palliative chemotherapy. Steroids and anti-nausea had been given via IV. Docetaxel chemotherapy was administered. Flow had commenced about 3-4 minutes. I was aware something was wrong. I was able to get a nurses attention. The nurse quickly removed the IV. A nursing team of 4 or 5 began working on me, administered an antidote. It is the time frame between removing the IV, and the antidote taking hold, that I began my experience. I felt myself being pulled away and I was leaving my body. I was clear headed, but unable to verbally communicate. I felt a narrowing of both, my vision and my spatial awareness. The feeling of leaving was overwhelming; overwhelming is not exactly the right term, but it will do. I had a physical sensation of being pulled away from behind my body, by my chest and shoulders. I could see and hear what was happening in front of me with extreme clarity. I was aware of staff working on me, moving my body to a more reclining position, and talking to me. My mind told me to answer, but I was physically unable to do so. I was sad. I was dying and felt alone. The antidote took hold quickly and my spatial awareness opened up. Before, I was focused on the small area in front of me. Now, I could hear in the room and my peripheral vision was restored. The antidote made me feel stoned. I was also physically shaking and trembling. After some time, the ability to speak, move, and walk returned. When I was able, my wife took me home. I was reliving the experience over and over, and finally was able to sleep. When I woke, I was clear in my thoughts about what had happened. I had begun the near death experience. I had stepped into the doorway of the other side, but had not ventured any further down the path.
