Experience Description

When I was about 4 or 5 years old, one of my favorite things to do was to go outside on 'trash day.' I would watch the trash men and wave at them. One day I was outside, and when they were no longer in sight, I decided to climb on top of our metal trash can. I was alone outside. As I was standing on the trash can I lost my balance and fell, hitting my head on the concrete sidewalk.

I distinctly remember a ringing sound as I hit my head. Then, I remember turning around from where I had fallen on the side walk. I looked up and saw a huge cloud, full of light. In the center of the light was a figure that I would describe as Jesus. He was a smiling young man with a beard and loving eyes. I looked at him and wanted to go to him. He communicated to me without talking, 'It's ok. You need to go back now. OK? You're going to be all right.' He had a beautiful smile and such love. I knew him and I felt that he knew me.

The next thing I remembered was that it was dark outside. I just opened my eyes and I was on the sidewalk lying down. I got up, feeling fine, and went into the house. I never questioned that this was an abnormal experience. I didn't tell anyone about it. But I watched a TV show a few months ago on NDE and realized that this experience was what it was.

I also identified with feeling different from other people all my life. I have had many experiences my entire life with 'seeing' and 'knowing' things that other's didn't perceive. As I got older, I quit talking about them because I realized that this was not a 'typical' human awareness. My entire life I have experienced 'seeing' spiritual things and having pre-knowledge about events as well as 'knowing' things about people that they never told me, as well as 'seeing' into a different dimension. It seems normal to me but it freaks other people out I see this as a gift. It wasn't until I recently got into counseling with a counselor that understood this. She helped me embrace it and validate it. I grew up in a really abusive and neglectful home and this has helped me feel special, valuable, and loved. I want to explore more now and use this gift to help others.

How do you consider the content of your experience? Entirely pleasant

Did you feel separated from your body? No I clearly left my body and existed outside it

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness? More consciousness and alertness than normal. I am more distracted on a daily basis from this 'knowing and seeing'. I can tap into it and sometimes it simply intrudes into my awareness.

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness? When I was facing Jesus and he was communicating with me.

Were your thoughts speeded up? No

Did time seem to speed up or slow down? No

Were your senses More vivid than usual? Incredibly more vivid

Please compare your hearing during the experience to your everyday hearing that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience. I just remember a peaceful silence.

Did you seem to be aware of things going on elsewhere? No

Did you pass into or through a tunnel? No

Did you see any beings in your experience? I actually saw them

Did you encounter or become aware of any deceased (or alive) beings? Yes Jesus

Did you see, or feel surrounded by, a brilliant light? A light clearly of mystical or other-worldly origin

Did you see an unearthly light? Yes A glow of light in a cloud with Jesus in the middle.

Did you seem to enter some other, unearthly world? Some unfamiliar and strange plac.e I seemed to be floating in the sky in front of the cloud that Jesus was in. I remember noting how high I was and that I could see over the roof of our house and was as high as the tree in our front yard. I thought this was curious.

What emotions did you feel during the experience? I felt loved and peace. I was not aware that I was having an out of body experience at the time since I was so little. It was 'real', more real though than real life, if that makes sense.

Did you have a feeling of peace or pleasantness? Incredible peace or pleasantness

Did you have a feeling of joy? Happiness

Did you feel a sense of harmony or unity with the universe? I felt no longer in conflict with nature

Did you suddenly seem to understand everything? No

Did scenes from your past come back to you? No

Did scenes from the future come to you? No

Did you come to a border or point of no return? I came to a barrier that I was not permitted to cross; or was sent back against my will. I was told I had to go back. I just accepted this as what I must do. I don't remember feeling conflicted about this.

God, Spiritual and Religion:

What was your religion prior to your experience? Christian- Protestant I was young but I believed in Jesus

Have your religious practices changed since your experience? Yes I feel God and Life are soooooo much more than I ever realized.

What is your religion now? Christian- Other Christian I do not identify with any specific religion.

Did your experience include features consistent with your earthly beliefs? Content that was both consistent and not consistent with the beliefs you had at the time of your experience. I knew that Jesus loved me. I first experienced this at about age 3 when I saw him standing in my bedroom doorway. I had no other experiences that I can remember other than the NDE that I had at age 4 or 5. The love was more peaceful and accepting and joyful than I had ever known. He delighted in me!

Did you have a change in your values and beliefs because of your experience? Yes I feel that my life is much more significant and purposeful.

Did you seem to encounter a mystical being or presence, or hear an unidentifiable voice? I encountered a definite being, or a voice clearly of mystical or unearthly origin. I saw a Being I perceived to be Jesus. He was a young man, bearded, and in a white robe. He had smiling eyes, so happy to see me and loved me very much. He did not want me to be worried about this experience, but he knew that I was kind of confused and it's like he was kind of amused by this. Like he 'got it'.

Did you see deceased or religious spirits? I actually saw them

Did you encounter or become aware of any beings who previously lived on earth who are described by name in religions (for example: Jesus, Muhammad, Buddha, etc.)? Yes Jesus

During your experience, did you gain information about premortal existence? No

During your experience, did you gain information about universal connection or oneness? No

During your experience, did you gain information about the existence of God? Yes I only saw Jesus and immediately recognized him.

Concerning our Earthly lives other than Religion:

During your experience, did you gain special knowledge or information about your purpose? No

During your experience, did you gain information about the meaning of life? No

During your experience, did you gain information about an afterlife? Yes I had an awareness that I could have 'gone to' be with Jesus. Other than that, I had no awareness of space or time.

Did you gain information about how to live our lives? No

During your experience, did you gain information about life's difficulties, challenges and hardships? No

During your experience, did you gain information about love? Yes I felt completely engulfed in love and acceptance when with Jesus. I had no pain even though I had hit my head upon falling.

What life changes occurred in your life after your experience? Large changes in my life. Because I was so young when I had my NDE, I am unsure about where I was at the time. I do know that once I identified it, it has made a huge difference in my life about feeling more safe and free and loved.

Have your relationships changed specifically because of your experience? I feel more affirmed in my gifts.

After the NDE:

Was the experience difficult to express in words? No

How accurately do you remember the experience in comparison to other life events that occurred around the time of the experience? I remember the experience more accurately than other life events that occurred around the time of the experience. For many years, I just accepted that this was an experience that I had. Until I saw the special on NDEs, I did not remember the part about seeing Jesus. Only about floating above my body and didn't make the connection that it was an NDE. Once that experience was identified, I remembered the entire experience.

Do you have any psychic, non-ordinary or other special gifts after your experience that you did not have before the experience? Yes I believe this was the beginning of my spiritual awareness in many areas, including the growth of my empathic gifts.

Are there one or several parts of your experience that are especially meaningful or significant to you? Looking back, I take comfort knowing that I am being watched over.

Have you ever shared this experience with others? Yes I just put all the pieces together recently. I have only told it to a few trusted people and they think it is really cool. They have seen my gifts at work all of my life. I am just now being ably to identify what this gift is.

Did you have any knowledge of near death experience (NDE) prior to your experience? No

What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened? Experience was definitely real. I had no reason to dis-believe it but I thought it was a normal experience. I didn't even tell anyone at the time as far as I can remember.

What do you believe about the reality of your experience now? Experience was definitely real. Looking back, I can see what a huge impact it has had on my life.

At any time in your life, has anything ever reproduced any part of the experience? No
