Experience Description I remember my mom saying to me 'You always do things the hard way.' I was in a viewing area above the operating table. I was watching the doctors work on me to bring me back. When I woke up, I had a big bandage on my belly. My face was so swollen, I was hardly recognizable. There were family and friends there because they thought I was dying. It's not so much my out of body experience that has bothered me. It's my health that has me concerned. I feel like I must have an autoimmune disorder but all of my blood tests are basically normal. I had so many unexplained symptoms that weren't getting better and felt horrible. I'm 61 and feel like I'm 80. My 80 year-old mother is in better health than I am. I just feel like since that happened to me that my health hasn't been the same. I don't have an entire week where I have good days 7 days in a row. Just as I start to feel good and have energy to get things done, I don't feel good and don't get much done. Background Information: Gender: Female Date NDE Occurred: Fall of 1998 NDE Elements: At the time of your experience, was there an associated life-threatening event? Yes Surgery-related Life threatening event, but not clinical death I was hemorrhaging internally after a hysterectomy. They noticed I barely had a pulse and gave me 4 pints of blood simultaneously; one in each arm and one in each jugular vein to bring my blood pressure to normal. They cut me up the middle to find where I was bleeding. How do you consider the content of your experience? Neither pleasant NOR distressing Did you feel separated from your body? No I lost awareness of my body How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness? Less consciousness and alertness than normal. I don't know; it was 26 years ago At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness? I think I was most aware when my blood pressure was very low. It was like I was above everyone watching. Were your thoughts speeded up? Faster than usual Did time seem to speed up or slow down? Everything seemed to be happening at once; or time stopped or lost all meaning. I was dying. I was bleeding internally, my mom was freaking out because I was gray and there was no pulse. Nurses were calling for doctors and the nurses were working on me. I was rushed into the operating room. It happened so fast and seemed like time just stopped Were your senses More vivid than usual? No Please compare your vision during the experience to your everyday vision that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience. It seemed like watching a play where spot lights were on me. The rest of the room was faded out Please compare your hearing during the experience to your everyday hearing that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience.
